At the beginning of the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball season, in partnership with Nissan Australia and Champion Data, the latest innovation in netball analytics was launched – Nissan Net Points.

We are excited to announce that Nissan Net Points will carry on through the 2019 Constellation Cup test series, allowing fans a new level of player performance analysis on an international scale.

What are Nissan Net Points?

Netball is full of big, thorny questions. Can you compare one player with another? How do you rank passing speed, shooting accuracy and centre-court pressure? Who really won the game, and how did they do it?

Nissan Net Points is professional netball’s first overarching player metric. It’s a stats-based scoring system, run by Champion Data, that measures every player action on the court.

Here’s how it works. Every time someone scores a goal, blocks a pass, gets a defensive rebound (and so on), they get points. The bigger the impact, the bigger the points. If players make mistakes or cause turnovers, they lose points. At the end of the game, each player receives an individual Nissan Net Points score, which represents their contribution to the match.

Nissan Net Points are the definitive measurement of player performance. For a long time, coaches, fans and commentators had to track stats themselves, or rely on gut instinct. Now they can simply glance at a player’s Nissan Net Points score, which is updated by Champion Data in real time. It’s opened up a whole new world of Netball analysis and a new way for fans to understand and enjoy the game.
