About the award

Let’s be honest. When Netball Australia sat down to create a new award in 2008, one that recognised the best player across the year’s ANZ Championship and Diamonds campaign, there was only one name in serious contention.

The Liz Ellis award is named in honour of Liz Ellis, Australia’s most capped and celebrated player. It’s the highest individual accolade in Australian netball. The prize isn’t too shabby either: each winner receives a one carat, rare white diamond (along with a hefty amount of fame and industry fuss).

Defender Mo’onia Gerrard took out the inaugural Liz Ellis Diamond winner in 2008. The diamond is presented once per year, during the Australian Netball Awards.
