Janine Ilitch was named in her first Australian team in 1995 and made her Test debut the following year against New Zealand in her home town of Melbourne.
Equally adept playing at either goal defence or goal keeper, Ilitch was a member of two Australian Netball World Cup teams, including the triumphant 1999 side.
Ilitch waited patiently for an opportunity to gain regular court time behind the accomplished pairing of Kathryn Harby-Williams and Liz Ellis and eventually cracked into the starting seven in the 2004 series against New Zealand.
She formed a strong defensive combination with Ellis, but it was short lived when Illitch took time away from the game due to pregnancy the following year.
Her last appearance for Australia was at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne
Domestically, Ilitch played with the Melbourne Kestrels in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy, captaining the team in 2004, before ending her career at the end of the 2006 season.
