Laura von Bertouch was named in the Australian squad for the first time in 2002 after an impressive season with the Adelaide Thunderbirds in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy but had to wait until 2006 to make her international debut.
The older sister of former Australian captain Natalie Bode (nee von Bertouch) was a reliable wing attack who, after being part of the team that won the 2007 Netball World Cup crown, announced her retirement from international netball.
While von Bertouch only stood at 167cm tall, her speed and agility were the greatest strengths of her game along with her determination. She formed a strong mid-court combination with her sister over many tears at the Thunderbirds and also in the Australian team.
She came out of retirement in 2009 to play a season with the Thunderbirds in the ANZ Championship.
