A versatile defender, Mo’onia Gerrard’s talents were identified at an early age. judged the Player’s Player in 2003.
Making her international debut in 2004, Gerrard quickly established herself a key part of the Australian defensive end. A series of injuries curtailed her participation in competitive netball throughout 2005 and also forced her to miss the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
She returned to be part of Australia’s triumphant 2007 and 2011 Netball World Cup-winning teams, playing primarily as wing defence in the later.
Gerrard, who is of Tongan descent, won the inaugural Liz Ellis Diamond in 2008 and led the Adelaide Thunderbirds to the 2010 ANZ Championship title alongside Natalie von Bertouch before finishing her career at the NSW Swifts.
