There was almost a decade between Natalie Avellino’s two stays in the Australian squad.
Her first stint came in the mid 1990’s when she was part of the Australian team that won the 1995 Netball World Cup title in England. She returned to the national squad in 2004 for another two-year stint where she was part of the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games silver medal team.
In 2006 she played her 100th Commonwealth Bank Trophy match in a “guest” appearance for the AIS Darters, as well as announcing her retirement from international netball.
Avellino also played in New Zealand’s domestic competition and spent a season as co-coach of the Southern Steel in the ANZ Championship having previously worked as a commentator.
