Stella Northey (nee Gollan) fancied herself as a centre player growing up in Melbourne but quickly found a niche playing as a defender.
Northey made her international debut in the first Netball World Cup played on Australian soil, at Perth in 1967, where Australia finished runners up.
The highlight of her career was undoubtedly winning the next Netball World Cup four years later in Jamaica where Northey was joined in the Australian team by her younger sister Margaret.
The sisters also represented Victoria for a number of years at the national championships and also played for the same club side.
