The Origin Australian Diamonds’ continued success on the world stage has culminated in another year atop the World Netball rankings.
Ongoing dominance, including gold medal triumphs at the 2022 Commonwealth Games Birmingham, the 2023 Netball World Cup, and success in the past seven test series appearances, has contributed to the Diamonds' extending their lead over second-ranked New Zealand to 20 points.
“Finishing the year as World Number 1 is something we as a team and organisation we are extremely proud of,” Origin Diamonds Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich said.
“We went into the last cycle with a vision of winning the two big marquee events, the World Cup and Commonwealth Games and to retain the number one spot. To achieve this milestone at a time when international netball is the closest it has ever been is something we never take for granted.
Marinkovich said it has taken an enormous contribution by both those on and off the court to achieve.
“We are very much looking forward to the next phase and what we can continue to achieve together as we know there is still so much more improvement we can make,” she said.
Third and fourth ranked England and Jamaica continue to close the gap on New Zealand, just two ranking points behind the second-ranked nation as Jamaica continues to close in on England.
The latest rankings include all matches played since July 1, 2020, with those played in the last year, since March 1, 2023, weighted at 100%, and matches between July 1, 2020, and February 28, 2023, now weighted at 50%.
