Netball Australia has re-launched its search for the next Origin Australian Diamonds Head Coach, following the announcement that the Origin Diamonds will take on New Zealand in the 2020 Constellation Cup later this year, should Trans-Tasman borders open.
The recruitment process, which began in March this year, has already captured expressions of interest from within the sport’s high-performance coach network. Recruitment was however placed on hold when the global COVID-19 pandemic was declared and netball across Australia, and the world, was suspended.
With greater certainty around the remainder of 2020, Netball Australia is re-opening the application process which should ensure all candidates have an opportunity to apply without the uncertainty of the pandemic.
A five-person selection panel has been established to appoint the new head coach. This panel is made up of Netball Australia Chair Paolina Hunt, Netball Australia CEO Marne Fechner, Netball Australia Executive General Manager of Performance Stacey West, Australian Men’s Rugby 7’s Coach Tim Walsh and high-performance, leadership and team culture consultant Graham Lowe.
Netball Australia CEO Marne Fechner said the organisation was pleased to be re-launching the recruitment process.
“With greater certainty around the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season and Constellation Cup, we’re excited to be resuming recruitment for the new Origin Diamonds Head Coach. As you would expect, the calibre of expressions of interest back in March was extremely high, so we look forward to confirming the final list of applicants,” she said.
“The selection panel will draw on the Australian Institute of Sport’s High Performance Coach Success Profile throughout the recruitment process, with experience, knowledge, competencies and personal style the four key pillars of assessment.
“Formal applications will close on the 28th of June and we aim to be in a position to publicly announce the new Origin Diamonds Head Coach by the end of August 2020.”
Netball Australia and Netball New Zealand have committed to completing the annual four-match Constellation Cup test series towards the end of 2020, following the completion of the two nations’ domestic leagues and pending travel allowances across the Tasman.
