We’re into the final countdown for Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 and the Australian Diamonds and our training partners have been working hard to be both physically and mentally prepared for what will unfold.
Over the past three weeks our athletes have worked through a solid training block that has involved court work, gym and conditioning sessions spread throughout the week.
On top of this we have been fulfilling many media and appearance commitments.
The athletes in each state have been coordinated by their respective ANZ Championship head coach and I want to thank them for their extra effort in preparing the Diamonds and our training partners for what lies ahead when we begin our campaign next Friday night against Trinidad & Tobago.
This training system allows us to remain decentralised and for the athletes to remain at their home bases until we come in together in Sydney and Newcastle for our pre-World Cup camp.
Everyone is ready and raring to go for the Netball World Cup and the excitement is palpable.
The top 16 nations are also jetting their way to Australia - many have already arrived to undertake preparation camps.
We know that our Australian netball fans will welcome them all with warm regard and appreciation of the long journey they have undertaken in so many respects.
Our supporters understand and appreciate top level sport and will display sportsperson ship at all times.
We can’t wait to see our fans in the green and gold and also welcome all the supporters of the other competing nations. The colour and excitement in Sydney will be brilliant.
Vale Sally McLean
On behalf of the entire Diamonds program and Netball Australia, I wish to pass on our condolences to Ray McLean and his family on the recent death of his beloved wife Sally, pictured right.
Ray, as many of you would appreciate, has been a great supporter and mentor to myself and the Diamonds.
His work, on behalf of the Leading Teams approach, with the squad through our team culture development has been second to none.
Sally was also a great supporter alongside Ray.
Sally is an acclaimed netball coach in the Ballarat Football Netball League and a life member of this association through her tireless work in coaching and administration.
Just to finish, I want to thank all of our wonderful fans right across Australia for the overwhelming amount of well wishes and support you have sent to the team ahead of our Netball World Cup campaign.
It is very humbling to know that you are all right behind us in our quest for victory – we will do you proud.
