Victorians Emily Mannix, Kate Moloney and Tegan Philip, alongside Queenslander Gretel Tippett will join the 12-player team for a training camp at the Netball Centre of Excellence at the Australian
Institute of Sport.
The camp, held 13-16 March, will be the first time the Diamonds Commonwealth Games team comes together since their selection.
Head coach Lisa Alexander said, “training partners play an important role in our preparations, particularly for major tournaments, by providing a greater depth of high performance involvement in
the camp.
“We utilised training partners in our preparations for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2015 Netball World Cup, and the results speak for themselves.”
The four selected athletes have all represented the Diamonds in the past six months, during the Netball Quad Series or Constellation Cup.
“The fact that we can have four strong, skilled Diamonds further extend the team during the training camp shows the depth of our squad. They all know the ins and outs of the team and understand their role, through their own international experience.
“The training partners will take part in all aspects of our camp, from performance analysis to match play, which is not only invaluable to the team, but also to the athletes themselves,” she explained.
Australia opens its 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games campaign against Northern Ireland on Thursday 5 April before its remaining pool matches against Barbados (6 April), South Africa (8 April), Fiji (9 April) and Jamaica (11 April).
