We had a record international netball crowd in South Australia and in Victoria we were also greeted with a record netball crowd for Margaret Court Arena. It’s always a joy to play in front of our home crowd, and this was particularly special for our athletes born in these two states.
The Quad Series is an important new initiative to continue to grow our game and provide regular international competition.
We look forward to watching the competition grow.
Our attention now has shifted to the Constellation Cup, a four-Test Series against our traditional rivals the Silver Ferns. It’s our Bledisloe Cup.
We had a tight battle with the Ferns in Melbourne last weekend, with the lead changing hands ten times, and expect nothing but their best as we play for the Constellation Cup in October.
National selectors Anne Sargeant, Michelle Wilkins and I will be naming our team to contest the Constellation Cup this Monday, with athletes straight into their preparation.
With a strong squad of 18 players, fielding a team of 12 is a difficult decision. We must keep the health longevity of our players in mind, and provide opportunities to develop our depth as we build towards Commonwealth Games Gold Coast 2018 and Netball World Cup LIVERPOOL 2019.
Expect to see some different faces in our Constellation Cup team.
