The Origin Australian Diamonds are gearing up to face their fiercest rival in the Constellation Cup this October.
But before launching into the facts about this year’s clash, let’s fill you in on the history of the annual series.
THE HISTORY
The Constellation Cup is an annual battle between world netball’s biggest rivals the Origin Australian Diamonds and the New Zealand Silver Ferns.
At its heart, the Constellation Cup is a four-game international test series played between the Diamonds and the Silver Ferns.
The Constellation Cup has an 11-year history with the tournament first held in 2010.
The Diamonds were quick off the mark, winning the first series two matches to one. They then went back-to-back in 2011 before the Silver Ferns won their first of the series in 2012.
The Diamonds then went on a winning streak, holding onto the Constellation Cup every year up until the most recent 2021 series.
The competition did not go ahead in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic.
The Constellation Cup itself was the first perpetual trophy on offer despite the fact Australia and New Zealand have been competing against each other since 1938.
History will be made in 2022 with Australia and New Zealand's mens teams set to go head-to-head in curtain raiser matches.
The two sides will meet in Auckland and Melbourne ahead of the Diamonds and Ferns Constellation Cup clashes.
The Australian team has won nine out of eleven Constellation Cups.
The Diamonds have named their squad for this month's series and you can view the team here .
